After accusations of tax evasion, the president of the Jujhar group speaks out

JUJHAR GROUP of companies was at the center of controversies under the previous Congressional regime after facing charges of tax evasion with other private companies and having several of their buses confiscated; Gidderbaha MLA Amarinder Singh Raja Warring was the Transport Minister at the time.

Gurdeep Singh JuJhar, Founder and Chairman of Jujhar Group, has now spoken on the matter: “The situation has not been portrayed as it was for us and other market participants. Back when Covid-19 was hitting every business so hard, ours was also hit the same way. Government buses had to close for more than two months during the first wave, followed by the second wave with crowd restrictions and nightly curfews. The government at the time ordered us to run the bus service and ensured the removal of the tax as relief. Unfortunately, the Chief Minister was changed at the end of the Congress government and the new Minister of Transport refused to waive the taxes. Only these taxes were unpaid; there was no escape from our side. The industry had not paid taxes during the Covid period under the impression that a waiver had been announced. However, all taxes were paid by Jujhar Group later, ensuring smooth running of the system and the business. ”

Gurdeep Singh is often seen as close to the Badal family and interestingly he said, “It’s just a rumour. We are nowhere related to the Badal family or close to any of the members. We have only been in the same transportation company since 1944. We intend to stay in business and give back to the community in any way we can, including job creation. Our motivation is to provide world-class services to our customers. Not only that, I have no intention of joining active politics at this time.
