BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2022 MetroDesk Media, LLC) – A Boca Raton man who owns a towing business neglected to pay the IRS his share of his earnings. This man, Craig Goldstein, is now facing federal prison after pleading guilty to tax evasion.
The United States Department of Justice tells the story this way:
Craig Goldstein, 60, of Boca Raton, Fla., owner of a Lauderdale Lakes towing business, pleaded guilty to three counts of tax evasion for underreporting income and not paying tax. federal tax on money he received under a Personal Injury Protection (PIP) kickback scheme. and other cash frauds. Sentencing was set for August 16.
As part of his plea change, Goldstein admitted the following: He owned West Way Towing, a Lauderdale Lakes company that towed — and stored in its yard — broken down vehicles, including those involved in crashes. . Goldstein referred accident victims to certain attorneys and chiropractors who would then illegally bill insurance companies for unnecessary services under Florida’s Personal Injury Protection Program. Goldstein charged a fee for each patient referral, which he collected in cash and did not report to the IRS, the charges allege. Goldstein also failed to report money he received from vehicle storage lien fees and vehicle auctions whose sale prices were manipulated to falsely reflect that Goldstein made no profit, according to information.
Goldstein faces up to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to $750,000.
Juan Antonio Gonzalez, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, and Matthew D. Line, Special Agent in Charge, Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Miami Field Office, made the announcement. The IRS field office in Miami investigated the matter. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant US Attorneys Jeffrey N. Kaplan and Paul Schwartz.
