Child Tax Credit Payments: How to Get the Latest

Facebook messages claim that a final payment is being sent. What they really mean is that when you file taxes, you will get the rest of the child tax credit.

GREENSBORO, NC — Is the government making another child tax credit payment to parents this month?

Well, the answer is yes and no. Let’s explain.

Facebook posts are circulating that show Google’s response to child tax credit payments. There is one section highlighted:

These amounts were paid on the 15th of July through December with a final Child Tax Credit payment coming in April 2022.

At the bottom of the post, the Facebook user writes: Watch for that April payment, it’s coming.

The comment makes it sound like you’re getting another round of payout, but that’s not really the case.

“There are no further Advance Child Tax Credit payments forthcoming. Normally you would only get your child tax credit when you file your tax returns and it is different this year. You got half early and the other half when you file your tax return,” said Ryan Dodson, Liberty Tax Services.

The key here, the “payment” in April 2022 is not mailed to you but is credited to you when you file your taxes and claim the credit, which in many cases results in a refund.

Let me stop here for a minute. Your refund will likely be smaller this year because you received part of your refund in July, August, September, October, November and December — in the form of child tax advance payments.

Remember, Tax Day isn’t April 15, 2022, it’s April 18, 2022, the Monday after Easter. You don’t want to miss the deadline, especially if you owe money.

“If you owe $4,000 and you decide not to report because you don’t have the money, it will be $5,000 once you arrive in September, so the best thing you can do even if you can’t pay is to report that tax. come back anyway,” Dodson said.

Remember that an extension is an extension to deposit, not an extension to pay.
