China fines actor $16.7m for tax evasion

Shanghai municipal tax authorities concluded that Deng Lun avoided personal income tax in 2019 and 2020 by entering into “fictitious business deals”, Xinhua news agency reported on Tuesday.

Deng is the latest celebrity in China whose tax authorities have sought to set an example for tax evasion. Last month, Chinese officials said they fined a live broadcaster 62 million yuan for underpaying taxes.
