The effects of a tumultuous 2020 were still evident in 2021. Today, the region’s business, political and civic leaders are helping usher their organizations into a new era. Let’s hope this 13th edition of the In Charge list does not bring bad luck. Those in it embody what it means to be “responsible,” and it will be up to them to ensure that the city and state continue their collective trajectory forward.

Patricia Aspe — Founder and Director, ASPire: Former Community Education Partners and Director of ServiceMaster who joined Compass in 2011 and were named Presidents in 2019, taking over from Art Rebrovick. Worked for 25 years with Fortune 500 member The ServiceMaster Co.

Christie Berger— Executive Leadership Coach, CB Consulting: The firm was launched in 2007 and has worked with small business executives as well as Fortune 50 executives. From 2011 to 2018, she was also Executive Coaching Lead for the Center for Executive Belmont Education and founded the Fusion Leader Circuit development program for female leaders and executives.

Bill Brown— CEO, A2B Advisors: Consulting business revived after nearly a decade as CEO of workflow software company EHR Entrada, which he developed and sold to NextGen Healthcare in 2017 for approximately $34 million . Entrepreneur Center Board Member and Executive-in-Residence for the incubator’s Project Healthcare program.

Kevin Cowherd — Senior Managing Director, Ankura: Hired in late 2020 to succeed Beth Chase, who founded former consulting firm c3 and led its 2018 sale to Ankura. Joined the company in 2013 after more than two decades at IBM and specializes in HR, IT and Sales.

Jeff Drummonds— Managing Partner and Chief Executive Officer, LBMC: Works with leaders of the firm’s audit, tax and advisory practices and chairs the management committee. Prior to taking on the role of managing partner in 2015, he was the partner in charge of the tax division of LBMC. Works closely with Mark Burnette, shareholder and leader of the consulting firm that guides information security efforts and joined LBMC in 2013.

David Fours Co-Founder, Executive Aura: Former professor who founded Nashville Consulting Group in the 1980s and 90s and co-founded Executive Aura in 2012. A decorated military veteran has been an assistant professor at Vanderbilt since 2002 and led the development of the mentorship program dec.

Ryan Gallagher— CEO, InfoWorks: Former firm chairman who was chosen in early 2021 to succeed co-founder Jim Clayton. As chairman, helped more than triple revenue since joining industry giant Booz Allen Hamilton in 2012.

Dustin Hillis— President, Southwestern Coaching: The CEO of the extensive Southwestern family of companies launched a sales-focused coaching business in 2008. The division has more than 200 people in six countries and has worked with more than 10,000 people.

John Mark McDougal — Head of audit and advisory practice, LBMC: largest shareholder in the company’s manufacturing and distribution business and a member of its board of directors since 2010. Works primarily with private mid-market companies, specializing in manufacturing.

David Owens— Professor of Management Practice and Innovation, Vanderbilt University Owen Graduate School of Management: Specializes in innovation, new product development and organizational design. Takeover in 2020 of the management of the Wond’ry innovation and entrepreneurship center hosted by VU.

Kimberley Pace— President and CEO, Executive Aura: professor specializing in communication at Vanderbilt’s Owen School since 2005, who launched the company in 2012 with Michael Burcham and David Furse. Worked with VUMC, Ingram Content Group, and Lucent Health, among others.

Art Rebrovick — President and CEO, Compass Executives: Three-decade board veteran who brings manufacturing, distribution and turnaround experience for clients. A lead director at Synovus Bank.

Nancy Schultz— Vice President, North Highland: offers approximately 30 years of consulting experience, specializing in business processes and working with suppliers. Opened the company’s Nashville office in 1999 and is now North Highland’s global healthcare leader. Graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering from Vanderbilt.

Brian Waller— CEO and Co-Founder, Vaco: Teams up with Chairman and Co-Founder Jay Holloman to lead the company, which in 2019 acquired consulting firm MorganFranklin. This purchase brought revenue to $750 million. In 2020, the company added the KraftCPAs team focused on Microsoft systems work.

Don Williamson— Managing Director, Compass Executives: Former President and CEO of Rogers Group who helped launch Compass in 2006. Has also held senior positions at Aladdin Industries and medical device company Symbion.
