Kirkland & Ellis hires German partner Allen & Overy

Kirkland & Ellis has hired an Allen & Overy partner in its Munich office as European partner moves show no signs of slowing down.

Dr Michael Ehret, who was a tax partner in A&O’s Frankfurt office for almost four years and before that with another UK firm Linklaters for a decade, will join Kirkland’s tax practice as a partner in Munich office, according to the firm’s statement. Tuesday.

Ehret’s start date in Kirkland has yet to be set, according to a company spokesperson.

As a tax attorney and advisor, Dr. Ehret’s practice in Kirkland will focus on tax law issues related to mergers, acquisitions, restructurings and financings, the firm said. In particular, he will advise on domestic and international mergers and acquisitions, private equity, acquisition financing, capital markets and real estate transactions.

Kirkland Executive Chairman Jon A. Ballis said hiring Ehret is part of ongoing plans for the company’s growth in the region.

Movements between elite international companies have continued apace since the start of 2022 across Europe.

In London, A&O itself added longtime Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom partner David Herlihy to its London arbitration group earlier in March, while Jones Day hired partner Mark Jones from Hogan Lovells in the city also during the month.
