LUDHIANA: Different teams from the State Department of GST (SGST) in Ludhiana carried out inspections at several premises of four different business groups based in the districts. The action was taken on suspicion of tax evasion, but at this time it is unclear what the amount of tax evasion was, if any, by the companies against which the action was taken.
In the first case, the inspection took place at a manufacturer of plastic products with business premises in Miller Ganj and Kohara. In the second case, the inspection took place at the office and factory of a tile manufacturer located in Sherpur Chowk and Samrala. In another action, department teams carried out an inspection at the Tajpur Road office of a wholesale tobacconist. The fourth inspection also took place in the Tajpur Road area, but the details of the business being scanned are unclear.
Meanwhile, the department is tight-lipped about the actions, but according to the sources familiar with the investigation, several incriminating documents were found by the department during these inspections and, along with the seizure of these, officials and SGST personnel also took possession of several loose papers, electronic devices, account books, etc. of certain premises. The material seized will now be examined for further investigation and the department has also summoned the owners of some of the businesses.
This is the second largest single-day action by SGST Ludhiana department as a week ago teams from different ranges of departments carried out inspections at eleven different companies located in Rauni village, Khanna, Kashmir Nagar, Girja Ghar Chowk, Chaura Bazaar, etc. .
